Field Day Activities

Ashland Men hosts a father son field day each year, the third Saturday in July at Cooke Family Wildlife Conservation area which is located at 4774 SR 13, just south of the intersection of 96 & 13. This 162 acre park is located in Richland County along the Black Fork of the Mohican River.
The property was developed originally as a wildlife habitat and hunting area. It provides a mixture of grassland, forest, marsh and waterway. There is a 3 acre fishing pond, picnic shelter, hiking trails, and trap shooting range on the property. This is a wonderful space and we thank the Ashland County Park District for all of their assistance in making this day special.

Skeet ShootingThis years event on July 21st will begin with check-in at 8.30 AM, starting promptly at 9.00AM.
This years events include trap shooting for the older boys and pellet guns for the younger ones. Don’t be surprised if you see the dads taking a turn with the pellet guns because we have pistols and it’s a lot of fun. Safety instructors will be on hand to teach and make sure that all firearms are handled safely. Randy Kline and his crew will oversee the BB gun range and Pheasants Forever will handle the trap shooting. Pheasants Forever’s Tim McMillen will also do a controlled hunt with quail to demonstrate a hunting dogs abilities and show how the dog is an asset in the hunt. Mike Deaton has a group of duck hunters with a champion hunting dog that will demonstrate retreiving.
Mike McPherran and his team will head up archery which will give the kids an opportunity to shoot a compound bow with their dad. Doug Cellar heads up the fishing team.
Rick Turske and Mark Frazer from the Ashland Area Cloud Chasers will put on a radio controlled plane demonstration. They have a tent where they will answer questions about their sport.

Fishing Fun!

There is a group of men who will do sports demonstrations which includes firearms, (Charlie Osborn), knives, (John Fisher), knot tying, (Matt Craw), Leather stamping, (Larry Hall) model trains, (Larry Norris). There will be a bird station, Tim Leslie and Don Plant. These men will answer the questions you might have. There will be a civil war cannon on the grounds firing every half hour, wagon rides around the park, and a historical re-enactment after lunch.

Over head view of Wildlife Conservation AreaAl Farnam will prepare lunch for us with the day wrapping up by 1.00 PM. their will be water available as most days in July are usually hot. As the events wind down the last thing we will do is award some young man a Mossberg 20 guage. Demonstrators will be available to talk with or ask questions. This is a father/son event and open to all men. We would like for the church community to use this opportunity to invite friends. Our desire is to see Christian men enjoying time with their sons & neighbors, doing things we love doing.

The event is free, but you must be registered. Click here to register now.
